New Tampa Juniorettes


Girls age 12-18 are invited to join Juniorettes. The club meets monthly and has a volunteer opportunity each month.

This year there are 35 girls from 6th-9th grade. They have already participated in the High Heel Hike and will be volunteering at Fire Safety Day.

OASIS
OASIS takes donations of gently used clothes and supplies them to school children in Hillsborough County through social workers.  Our club volunteers monthly to sort donated clothes at their location.

We are currently

collecting the

for projects :

- Military Care Package Items including: DVDs, books, writing materials, journals, batteries, games, gum, hard candy, antacid tablets, dried fruits, nuts, cookies, photo frames, cards, pictures made by children. Loose change to help with mailing expense "Pennies for Postage".

- New/used costumes  for Orange Grove  Middle's performing arts department. Items such as: men's suits, hats, material, patterns, masks, accessories, and anything else that could be used for dress-up/costumes.

- Old blankets or towels for donating to the Humane Society

-Items for recycling: used tennis shoes, old magazines, plastic bags, and cell phones.


 

2009 Go Red Video

Go Red For Women Community Awareness Contest:  Video, pictures and entry application were submitted to the “Show Your Red” ‘Go Red for Women’ community awareness contest.  Our club was featured on the website after winning in the "group/organization” category

 


Flip Swap Program

As of Feburary we have raised $131 and had 4 trees donated! Thanks to everyone who has brought in old/used cell phones for this great program.

The objective of the Art Department is to encourage members to foster and support various art activities throughout the community. This can include local theatre groups, art and film festivals and youth art.

Education Department

The mission of the Education Department is to promote lifelong learning, raise awareness of low literacy among many adults and youth; and to foster and support educational opportunities in our community.

In September and October we delivered boxes of school supplies to Mort Elementary and MOSI Partnership Elementary.  Both are Title 1 schools with 91% of the student population economically disadvantaged. Both schools were thrilled!

          Breakfast with Santa 2009

On the mornings of December 14 and 15, 2009, The NTJWC hosted Breakfast with Santa, an ongoing annual event, at Mort Elementary School . More than 20 women volunteered over the two days, along with a volunteer from University Community Hospital , who escorted Santa, and Troy Jansen of Jansen Dance Project, who taught a holiday Hip-Hop routine to the 241 energetic, giggling Head Start and Kindergarten-aged children. Each class was served breakfast and given a coloring book, a goody bag and an opportunity to hug and greet Santa individually. Children arrived in the cafeteria wearing reindeer hats bearing the children’s first names.  The New Tampa Junior Woman’s Club considers this project one of their most endearing and provides Christmas to dozens of needy families in conjunction with the event.

Home Life Department

This department is focused on educating members on prevalent women's health issues, organizations that can improve the lives of the neediest in our community and the value of retirement planning, credit checks and steps to personal identity safety.

Every year as the holidays approach the New Tampa Junior Woman's Club gears up for their annual "Special Santa" project.  Working with the social worker from Mort elementary school, the club works to provide holiday assistance to needy families.  In 2009,r NTJWC provided a complete outfit, socks and shoes for each of the 40 children along with gift items from each child's wish list.


"Every year we're amazed at the generosity of the New Tampa area residents and businesses who donate time and gifts to fulfill the wishes of these children."  After all that's what this season is about…helping others.

Special Santa 2009

  • Heavenly Hats to benefit chemotherapy patient

NTJWC donated about 30 hats to this great organization in 2010!

Heavenly Hats is a non-profit organization that donates new hats to cancer patients who lose their hair due to cancer or other medical conditions. The hats boost patients' self-esteem and give them the courage that is needed in their battle against cancer.

International Department

We are raising awareness and providing opportunities to make a difference throughout the world. Specifically United Nations programs concerning women and children.

  • World Food Day

We sent $200 to Food for the Poor to purchase 1000 lbs of beans and rice which are essential sources of protein and carbohydrates for hungry families. Food for Poor is a Florida-based four star charity and the number one international relief and development charity in the USA feeding 2 million poor people every day throughtout Latin America and the Caribbean.

  • HEIFER International

        Raised $90 at Fire Safety Day with the piggy raffle!

We are purchasing a pig for HEIFER International.

  • Free the Slaves- Legal Assistance Against Traffickers

The club donated a check for $312 to Free the Slaves in January 2010 to help pay the legal fees for twenty women who are seeking justice against their former traffickers. For more information go to www.freetheslaves.net.

  • Haiti Earthquake

NTJWC sent a check for $200 to GFWC Headquarters to help in rescue and recovery efforts.  To make a personal donation go to www.GFWC.org.

  • Operation Smile

NTJWC donated $240 in March 2010 to this fantastic organization.

  • Trick or Treat for UNICEF

One Voice For Children Department

Our purpose with One Voice is to have members become advocates for children by working to protect them from harm, prevent substance abuse and youth suicide and prepare them for healthy adult lifestyles.

  • Kid's Cafe- Safe Kids

Kid's Café® is one of the nation's largest meal service programs; providing free, prepared, nutritious food to hungry children.   We will volunteer time during Kids Café to help set-up and serve food.  Also, we will provide a take home bag with "healthy" food for the children.

500 kits will be distributed to families at Family of Christ school, Fire Safety Day, and Wiregrass Wednesdays at the mall.

  • "Queen For A Day"

         Chair: Rachel Young

All Children's Specialty Care of Tampa is the first place we will put on this program which consists of makeovers, manicures, rhinestone tiaras, and an upbeat setting, providing a distraction from the strain of treatment. The patients range in age from 1-21 years old and are pediatric cancer patients.

On November 12th, about 20 children at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital got a chance to get out of their rooms and enjoy being a kid for a few hours!

The Joshua House is a safe haven for abused, abandoned, and neglected children, offering a therapeutic residential group care program that provides a protected, nurturing, family-like environment for children five - sixteen. These children have been removed from their homes due to crisis and many have been through multiple foster homes.  Our club will be sponsoring an afternoon of pampering at a local cosmetology school for the teenage foster girls of Joshua House.

  • Hillsborough Kids, Inc. (HKI)

        Chair: Kathy Livingston

Hillsborough Kids, Inc. (HKI) is a local organization that oversees the care of approximately 2,800 children and teens in Hillsborough County due to abuse or neglect. In honor of National Adoption Day, HKI will be holding an event on November 20th that is open to the public.  They anticipate approximately 50 adoptions will be finalized on that day.  We will donate $150 to HKI to be used for this fun family event.

Public Affairs Department

Public Affairs is all about community, home and vehicle safety issues as well as promoting active citizenship, veteran's affairs and historic preservation. We encourage members to become active in all these areas.

  • Fire Safety Day

This event was a great success in October with lots of great booths with free giveaways and information on safety for kids and families.

  • Military Care Packages

All through the year the club collects items and sends them to military personnel stationed overseas.  This is an on-going project.

  • Operation Hug-A-Hero

This project provides a tangible, huggable reminder to comfort the children and, in turn, the families of our nation's military and public service "Heroes" by putting a Hug-A-Hero doll into the arms of those most in need. Our donation of $300 to this program will help about 12 children receive a doll. Our club's goal is to see the donation reach the famliies in need at our local base MacDill Air Force Base.  For more information on this program go to http://www.operationhugahero.org.

  • Project Easter Bunny - The Spring

                        2009 Project Easter Bunny

Our project this year will focus on “The Spring.”  Specifically, “The Spring of Tampa Bay” is a domestic violence shelter that has provided sanctuary and services to more than 50,000 abused adults and their children in Hillsborough County since 1977.  “The Spring” is the largest of Florida's 42 certified domestic violence shelters and the first in the United States to have an accredited school on site for resident children. “The Spring” is Hillsborough County’s only certified domestic violence prevention and emergency shelter agency.  We will be donating 60 baskets to the shelter.

  • T-Up For the Troops

         Chair: Valerie Casey

         We donated $100 to the tournament to help support the

         Fisher house, located at the VA hospital and is for our wounded

         soldiers' families while they are at the hospital. Families are able

         to support each other and stay for free.
